Soccer Camp

We decided to sign Jackson up for his first summer camp this year . . . soccer camp. It was one hour a day for a week, so I thought it would be a nice way to ease him into the whole summer camp thing. The Friday before camp started we had to gather our gear - soccer "socks" (shin guards) and a new water bottle. We took a quick trip to Sports Authority to obtain our correct soccer gear. And when I say "quick" I don't really mean it. As soon as we walked in Jackson got distracted by the golf section and had to practice his putting for 15 minutes - like father like son! I can't wait until he is old enough for golf camp. An hour later and after trying on several pairs of soccer socks and looking at all the water bottles, we headed out with the correct gear. When we got in the car, we of course had to put on our soccer socks. (And after a full week of camp, I still don't know which "sock" goes on which foot . . . soccer wasn't my sport when I was younger)

The first day of camp went great! Jackson was so excited and he listened to every word Coach Dave said. We even played soccer camp when we got home - Jackson was Coach Dave, and I was Jackson.

Before letting 10 four year olds loose with soccer balls, they practiced running around kicking cones down.

Next up, kicking the soccer balls down the field.

But you have to be ready to stop and freeze at any time.

At the end of each day, the campers played games involving sleeping dragons and friendly tickle monsters - the coaches. This did not go over well with some of the campers. As soon as the word "monster" was said, kids cried and headed for their mothers. Jackson didn't cry, but he sure did not want to play a game that involved dragons, monsters, and anything else that might run towards him and tickle him! He loved all the soccer drills, but good ole mom had to help him play the games. Fun - just what I wanted was to join the soccer camp. At least I wasn't the only mom out there fighting off the tickle monsters.

The last day there was an awards ceremony where Jackson received a certificate and a note from Coach Dave.

Jackson really like Coach Dave and was excited to see him each day - in Coach Dave form not Sleeping Dragon form.

Thanks Coach Dave for a great week of soccer camp, and we will see you next year!
